Michael Trainor - violin

A founding member of the Piatti Quartet, Michael's contributions to chamber music have been recognised when he became an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2018. He is currently first violin (he has played both violin roles a lot over the years!) of the Piattis and his distinctive style in this seat can be heard for the majority of their recordings including award winning and critically acclaimed discs on the Hyperion, Rubicon Classics, Delphian and Nimbus recording labels.
As a soloist he has broadcast the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and many duo recital works for BBC radio and he will be releasing his first solo works for disc with Lyrita Records later in the year, with the premiere recordings of pieces by William Busch from the 1940’s. He has been guest concertmaster of the RTÉ Symphony, RTÉ Concert, BBC Philharmonic, John Wilson, City of Birmingham Symphony, and principals with many others. He is often Principal Second Violin with the Sinfonia of London Orchestra (SOL) who are currently well into double digits of groundbreaking and notable recordings for symphonic and chamber orchestra. He has recorded as a quartet soloist in works by Ysaye, Enescu, RVW, Elgar, Howells and Delius for SOL.
He plays on a Ferdinand Gagliano/Voller violin (a combination of both a composite and a copy!) crafted by the scandalously and infamously talented Voller brothers.
